M o U – M o m e n t s o f U n c e r t a i n t y - after Delacroix’s ‘Christ on the Sea of Galilee’ (1853) In Delacroix’s painting, a fragile boat is caught in a storm, yet the apostles find calm in the guiding presence of Christ. Today, similar vessels cross the Mediterranean, carrying those in search of refuge—only now, there is no one to still the waters. The title references the “Memorandum of Understanding” signed to curb illegal border crossings, highlighting a painful contrast: policies shaped on land, while lives are lost at sea. The drawing, partially abstracted, gestures toward the imagined moments of those on board—suspended between hope, fear, and the vast uncertainty ahead.
